We are an evangelical church in the Baptist tradition. The church was constituted in 1862 and has met on the present site since 1867.

The church's vision is:

"Knowing, living, sharing Christ"

which is expressed in the following ways

• Service : Being equipped to use gifts in service – both in church and in the world.
• Worship : Encountering God in church services, groups and in life.
• Outreach : Spreading the good news of Jesus Christ, from Priory Street to the other side of the world.
• Relationships : Using our relationships to be role models pointing towards Christ.
• Discipleship : Learning how to follow Jesus better and making new disciples

The congregation is made up of about 200 people with ages ranging from 0 to 97. The morning service (10:45) is normally led by the pastor. Once every six weeks or so, we have an all-age worship service, led by a team from the church. The evening service (6:30) is led by the pastor, with other people in the church leading worship about once a month.

It is our aim to balance the ‘traditional’ and ‘modern’ in our worship. We use the NIV Bible and our main worship resources are Worship Today, Mission Praise and Spring Harvest.

The church has a vibrant musical side and we are blessed to have a number of musicians, a good speech and music sound system and projection facilities. Song words are displayed on a central screen. Large print paper copies of song words are available in every service.
